Carlsbad Pawn Shop proudly supports the arts community of Carlsbad and greater San Diego County. We should all feel lucky to be living in an area where there are so many arts and culture events. One great place to visit is the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, which is a dynamic center for the visual arts in San Diego’s North County.
Through museum-quality exhibitions, hands-on family activities, acclaimed arts education programs, lectures and publications, the Gallery strives to make the visual arts an accessible, integral, and ongoing part of the community’s life.
At Carlsbad Pawn Shop, we don’t deal in paintings, but rather fine jewelry, Swiss timepieces, and other luxury estate assets. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the visual arts. We see three upcoming Gallery exhibitions that we’d like to attend:
2011 Juried Biennial Exhibition
Jan. 30 – March 18, 2011
Over the past ten years, the Cannon Art Gallery Juried Exhibitions have become an important showcase for the work of both emerging and mid-career artists in San Diego County. This year’s jurors are Peter Frank, Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum and art critic for the Huffington Post, and Larry Baza, Co-Director of Noel-Baza Fine Art in San Diego. Open to artists who live, work or have a studio in San Diego County.
Face to Face: The Changing Face of Portraiture
April 3 – May 27, 2011
This exhibition examines how fifteen contemporary artists address portraiture and explore the nuances of face, figure and personality in a variety of styles and approaches. Whether it is a friend, stranger, loved-one or self-portrait, each work communicates a visual description about the life of the original subject. Artists include Shay Bredimus, Melissa Cooke, Marianela de la Hoz, Jorg Dubin, Perin Mahler, America Martin, Mike Stilkey, Linda Saphan, and Neil Shigley.
